The W2E-120/3fc has a nominal power of 3.0 MW and is designed for standard regions to fulfil the requirements of Guideline IEC 61400-12 wind class IEC 2a.
In its class the wind turbine is the one with the largest swept area and the highest hub height, containing a 120 m rotor diameter and a hybrid tower of a maximum hub height of 140 m.
The development is supported by the Chair for Technical Mechanics/Dynamics, University of Rostock, and the entire project is sponsored by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Reactor Safety - based on a resolution of the German Bundestag

The well-proven LARUS Compact® drive train technology is being expanded by an innovative drive generator concept: the compact hybrid drive. The use of the compact hybrid drive guarantees a significantly improved economic efficiency in the 3 MW class.
